Songs In Different Tongues

There is a widespread belief that a language must sound cool if one wants to make beautiful songs in that language. In fact, such a notion is flawed since languages that are known to be notoriously ugly and rough on the ears can produce songs that are loved by millions. German is one of them.

The German language is wrongfully assumed to sound inattractive to the listener, hinting that it can be an unpleasent experience being exposed to German. The existence of the metal band Rammstein solely disproves that. They have created an entire array of some of the best metal songs in their genre. Having been followed by millions of listeners, Rammstein has gathered a diverse fanbase from all nationalities, not just native German speakers. Most of his songs are sung by these fans from the heart, irrelavant of the language’s accoustical character.

Another example to challenge it would be the Turkish language. Turkish is also falsely associated with those languages that sound ugly. Yet, the Turks posit that Turkish is one of the most melodic languages that is perfectly suitable for songmaking. Thousands of Turkish songs are produced every year in Turkey, and songs from previous decades are still listened to widely. The language is so compatible that every music genre that exists today can be found in Turkish music.

Thus, languages and how well they sound to an untrained ear can be misleading. Languages that sound harsh to one can be music to the other. And languages that are thought to be not musical can come up with songs that are listened to by masses of people.

Why We Should Never Let Tech Kill Practical Skills

The age of technology has changed our lives forever. We can access information easier than ever. All the things we need pertaining to traffic, media, entertainment, etc. are all digitally available to us. A simple click, and you get a screen that shows how the weather is going to be in your neighborhood.

I totally agree that technology brings convenience, yet it also accounts for the loss of our ability to do things manually. We did stop writing with our hands on real paper because we rely heavily on our keyboards or touch screens to type a simple message. We follow our cars’ navigation systems to find our way instead of reading a city map to figure out a direction.

The grip of our minds on our muscles starts to loosen as we get too lazy, making use of technology unnecessarily. Such can be discerned in kids who are into gaming. These kids lock themselves in their rooms for hours to play video games while their friends go out and play outside. Those who spend too much time in front of the screen will be blunting their practical skills. Whenever they face a task that requires practicality, they will have a hard time accomplishing it.

We should never forget that the technology that we enjoy today was the result of some sort of manual labor. Some tightened the bolts, and some drew the blueprints by hand. We owe it to those who have put all these ideas into practice. We should never let technology itself kill our practical abilities, which we need for further improvement.

Old But Gold: It Is Not Fun Anymore

Why is it that we still listen to songs but do not get overly excited about them? Why don’t we have half the joy when we play video games compared to the outset of the video game era? Tools of entertainment have mounted up greatly, yet the joy we get from experiencing them has not evolved enough. In fact, people miss those days when the industry was taking its first few baby steps.

In the 1980s and 1990s, technology was not as advanced as it is today. We used primitive recording devices, which were limited in supply and hard to access. If we had a newly released cassette tape of our favorite music band, we would listen to it for days without a break. We had enormous joy listening to these relics of technology. However, we now have CDs and DVDs, which can hold hundreds of songs each. We can listen to music on our phones, wherever we are. We have too many options to choose from, whereas we used to have a limited supply back in the old days. This makes us avid consumers who do not experience the entertainment but consume it once and never go back again, which saps the potential joy we were to get.

Entertainment has gone so far that each production is seen as something to consume. It has been so monetized that people do not seek joy from a single product of art but instead want to swallow the whole package without tasting. Games, music, and movies no longer serve as treats for people. They are now regular activities to pass the time.

Chess is Getting More Robotic

The beauty of chess cannot be denied, yet this beauty has been spoiled by the implementation of technology. Moves that have been memorized and played in a robotic way demolish the sole purpose of the game, i.e., unpredictability.

When playing chess was counted towards a profession that involved all the good stuff like trophies and medals, people started to forget about the real essence of the game. Winning championships and getting awarded medals mesmerized players to such a degree that their way of training is purely focused on winning at all costs. Memorizing the openings and famous historic games move by move happened to be the norm.

Such practices gained popularity with the widespread use of computers in chess. Players working with and playing against computers leaned towards a game plan that is by-the-book and lacks creativity. Players ability to play out-of-the-ordinary moves crafted ingeniously was blunted.

Moves that create havoc around the chess board do not always conform with the textbooks, which adds originality to the game. Playing the game as a human who can make mistakes and wonder at the same time cherishes the century-old prodigy of the game.

However, the latest developments in the chess game, which incorporate technology, have damaged the game. It has lost its very human roots, where mistakes are welcome. Instead, the game transformed into a scripted path where a perfect move is always met with a robotically perfect move.

Chess should be returned to its human way. Computers’ influence on how we play should whine down in order for the board to witness more vibrant and joyful games.

Good Old DSLR Cameras Become Extinct?

With the advent of mobile phones that can take pictures, the old way of taking photos with a camera began to die off. Not only did these phones make it easier to take quick snaps, they also made a big leap in terms of the quality of photos. No one seems to bother carrying around a bulky camera when it is way simpler to zip out a phone from the pocket and take pictures of anything.

Mobile phones are getting cameras equipped with state-of-the art sensors that provide enhanced image quality. The latest processing technology enables these phones to process the raw image in order to wash out any defects. You do not have to worry about aperture or exposure since the phone’s processor and camera work together to produce the best quality no matter what the light conditions are.

Some people still prefer good old cameras to take pictures. They claim that the best pictures are taken with a real camera, not with a mobile phone, whose main purpose is not taking pictures. Cameras boast huge lenses compared to the tiny ones in a phone. Big lenses mean a greater amount of light can be absorbed into the machine. Hence, the photograph appears brighter and sharper in the event that the lights are dimmer.

The fact that professional photographers are still using digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras tells us a lot about which one produces the highest quality pictures. However, some may find these cameras to be expensive and not quite comfortable. Mobile phones meet the mainstream need in a very convenient way, and if one wants to try photography a little bit more seriously, he or she should get a DSLR.

On Rural Income

Rural lands are known for their contribution to the national income through agricultural production. Acres and acres of land are allocated for the sole purpose of feeding the population that lives in cities. What if the allocation of resources is disrupted in a way that spoils the welfare of the people living in these rural areas? What if they find that growing wheat, grains, or vegetables no longer sounds profitable? In that case, the villagers or their offspring would flee their homes, looking for new prospects outside their world. Discouraged, they would stop producing food, causing prices of the food to plummet at the country level.

Such a scenario has been coming true in many parts of the world. Masses of villagers move to cities at a greater pace than ever. They find it difficult to raise their family merely by harvesting crops. Family ranches with less than an acre of land barely make ends meet, as it is costlier to practice farming on a small scale. Big farmers with hundreds of acres of land can minimize their costs by making use of economies of scale.

Governments must act in such cases by coming up with policies that can encourage these small farmers to continue producing. Subsidies are one of these policies since they have the potential to raise their income to levels that enable them to keep going.

Small farmers can also form what is called "co-operative farming", getting together with neighboring farmers to produce on a larger scale. Such a practice has cost-saving features that help farmers cope with the ever-rising costs of agricultural production.

K-pop Hype

K-pop Artists

It all started with "Gangnam-Style", a Korean song listened to billions of times on Youtube, breaking all the records for most watched music clips of all time. Korean Pop, or K-Pop, created its own genre of music, gathering an avalanche of fans from all around the world quickly. This new genre combines dancing with singing, boasting catchy words and fast tunes.

Korean culture has been attracting a lot of attention for the last two decades. Surprisingly, Korean films were the first to reach the rest of the world. These movies introduced the Korean culture to the audience, helping people get a glimpse of how interesting and diverse the Korean culture is. Then came the Korean TV shows, love stories that have managed to get millions of viewers to glue their eyes to the TV screens.

When they first became acquainted with Korean music, young people enjoyed it almost instantly. They embraced the music right away, impressed by the way they danced and sang. K-pop groups have been followed so heavily that their way of dressing became fashionable among fans. In the eyes of their fan base, K-pop has been a cult, and the artists have been idols.

K-pop’s rise has proven that the next generation wants a change from the mainstream entertainment that has been put forward by the West. They want alternatives to what's been around lately. It appears they have found that in K-pop, and they intend to keep it as a lifelong expedition. The torch that has been kindled by the K-pop stars does not seem to vanish for quite some time from now.

Sevilla FC - A Team Destined to Win

Sevilla F.C. is a football club from the historic Andolucian area of Spain. Older generations might remember their name as one of the few clubs at which the legendary football player Diego Maradona played during the 1990s. Although they have not had much success in their national league (La Liga), it is their international performance that has made them famous. They have won the UEFA Europa League Cup a whopping seven times in the last 20 years, the last being the 2022–2023 season. They have been reigning supreme in this competition, having won the most trophies among all the clubs involved.

Sevilla’s success lies in their ability to build up a capable team, even though the finances are not always right for them. They sell their best players for a profit, yet the player they buy instead still proves to be as good as those leaving. Thanks to their scouting crew, the new transfers shine through the new season, bringing them both success and the income that is necessary to keep going in the industry. Added to that is the fan base, which never fails to support their team in any situation.

Furthermore, Sevilla has always come up with key players that uphold the team individually, not leaving the team until they bring success. Ivan Rakitic, Frederic Kanoute, Jesus Navas, and Ever Banega all played at Sevilla long enough to win one or two trophies before moving out.

Sevilla, the king of the Europa League, owes its success to good management practices at the club level. The perfect combination of seasoned players and young rookies brings about cohesion that is destined to win cups.

Population Growth and Its Implications

The world’s population is growing at an unprecedented rate. While some argue that population increases can be a good thing, others favor the idea that the world’s sources are not enough to match such an increase.

The proponents of population growth claim that the more people there are, the higher the production rate in a country. As productivity goes up, the total output in the economy goes up as well. Economic growth, in turn, enables people to access goods and services more comfortably, promoting improved living standards. Population growth will also hint at increasing demand for goods and services, which will signal producers to produce more.

What if the increase in population cannot be diverted to higher productivity like we mentioned above? There will be more people searching for work than there are available vacancies. The surplus labor that has come to exist because of population growth will have difficulty accessing jobs. Since these people will still need to be fed, there will be excess demand in the economy that cannot be met with increases in the supply side of the economy. This would mean supply falling short of demand, causing prices to increase.

Those who oppose population growth pose that the world’s natural resources are already scarce and will never be sufficient if population growth does not slow down. Energy, oil, and food prices will hike, leading to starvation and deprivation on a global scale. Wars will break out.

As a result, population growth can be a good thing if it is converted into productivity. If not, it will only mean poverty.

Government Spending: Good or Bad

The government is involved in the economy in many ways. It sets the rules and regulations that any endeavor must adhere to. However, the government’s most discernible involvement comes in the form of spending. How the government spends its money directly influences economic parameters. The government can create jobs by increasing expenditures in times when unemployment is widespread. It can cut down on expenditures to cool down the economy in times of high inflation.

Spending can have huge implications for any economy since government budgets have the capacity to fund even the largest of projects. Building a dam or a highway system costs so much that only the government can invest in those projects and finish them in the foreseeable future.

Governments often use this instrument to tinker with the economic outlook, which economists call "fiscal policy". Fighting economic evils like unemployment and inflation in bad times while helping the demand boom when total output does not seem to hit its potential.

However, there are some downsides to such interventions, which can prove detrimental to the nation’s economy in the long run. Spending by the government is financed by taxes. Therefore, governments need to increase their revenue by levying more taxes on citizens. Another negative aspect would be the higher inflation scenario that occurs if the government chooses to finance its spending by printing money instead of taxes. Excess money circulating in the economy does have inflationary effects, which spoil citizens’ welfare.

Government spending is a valuable tool if it is used wisely by the authorities. Handling it improperly has fatal implications.

To Turbo or Not

Car engines have gotten more complicated as the years have passed. Since the public demands both fuel economy and power from cars, car manufacturers have been trying hard to match these demands by introducing newer and more complex parts. To gain more horsepower and fuel economy at the same time, they started to combine small-displacement engines with turbos.

The traditional way for an engine to breathe used to be through natural aspiration. They use the atmosphere around them to feed the engine's air intake. The turbo, on the other hand, uses exhaust gases to pump pressurized air into the intake manifold of an engine, producing more power.

Naturally-aspirated engines might get affected by the changes in atmospheric pressure around the car. These engines might get choked at higher altitudes, as at these altitudes the air gets thinner, which negates some of the car’s performance. Turbo, on the other hand, makes up for the lost oxygen by forcing extra air into the engine.

Small displacements Engines with turbos attached may seem like a brilliant idea on paper. Yet, these engines are put under extreme temperatures while operating with a turbo. They need to work extra hard to haul the same chassis that is driven by their bigger counterparts. These would mean additional wear and tear, making them not last as long as expected.

Although turbo came as a ground-braking technology, it has its downsides. Some question its reliability, while others claim that it is too costly a solution. If there is one thing certain about turbos, it is that they revolutionized engine technology.

Tanks Are Still Relevant?

Gone are the days when massive rows of tanks filled the battlefield to launch an armored attack. Recent developments in shoulder-launched anti-tank missile technology has demonstrated that the survivability of tanks diminishes rapidly.

Tanks are thought to be the spearhead of any infantry strike, softening enemy defenses with their firepower. World War Two has witnessed the heydey of tanks, when armored assaults with precise tactics proved decisive. A coordinated tank attack had a good chance of wrecking havoc in the enemy’s ranks.

Today’s battlefield has changed a lot compared to the days of World War Two thanks to advancements in warfare technology. We have stronger radars and UAVs to precisely detect the enemy’s whereabouts. A big column of tanks ready to strike will immediately sound the alarm for the opposition. Attack helicopters boasting a diverse range of anti-armor weapons have the capability to hunt the tanks from afar.

The war in Ukraine has shown that tanks fall victim to Manpads (shoulder-launched missiles) often. These missiles can lock on tanks from miles away. All the operator needs to do is push the trigger and forget. The missile guides itself to the target pretty much automatically. These missiles hit the tanks from above, where the armor's strength is weakest.

These and similar gadgets reduce the survivability of the tank dramatically. However, tactics and strategies on the battlefield are known to adapt to changing threats and conditions. A winning tactic can always be met with a counter-tactic that could potentially nullify the other. There is still room for the tank in today’s warfare theory. It only takes time for tactics to evolve and triump over each other.

Football Is Never Just a Game.

Football is never just a game. There is more to it. The fans, the finances, and even the politics are involved in football more than ever. There is so much pressure on clubs and players that failing is not an option. No one would want to take responsibility for failure. It seems the spirit of the game has been lost to the point that no one cares for the beauty of the game anymore. Money stands at the epicenter of football.

When I sit and watch some of the older World Cup footage from the 1980s and 1990s, I cannot hide my excitement. It is such a thrill to watch Pele, Maradona, and the like. The way they play football is simple and artistic at the same time. They enjoy the moment and want the supporters to enjoy what they see on the pitch. All you see in their eyes is passion, not greed.

Today, football is mostly surrounded by money and wealth. Weathy men buy out the clubs that have been around since football was invented. They cash out huge sums to purchase big names. If the club fails, they go out and spend more money in the transfer market. This way, clubs with passion and history have zero chance against the clubs owned by the rich.

This kind of behavior kills the joy as well as the future of football. Clubs do not want to spend on young talents who cannot immediately bring about success. They want success, and they want it now.

Football should return to its roots. Passion should win against greed.

Rising Food Prices Causes Concern

They say that an army walks on its stomach. It’s how well you feed your soldiers that wins the wars. On a broader sense, food gives us the energy needed to keep going. Nations who have problems feeding their citizens struggle on their way to development. However, raising food prices on a global scale threatens all nations alike.

Contingencies like wars and diseases have a potential to pause the production of food and leave us with a food supply not enough for  the world population. The resulting increases in the price of food may result in hunger in some parts of the world. That is exactly what has happened as the COVID and War in Ukraine pushed down the agricultural production worlwide.

The importance of agricultural practices matters now more than ever as world population keeps soaring. For years, this sector has been looked down on by governments, supposing that it would not add meaningful value to society, at least not as much as some of the rising sectors like Finance and Technology have already done.

Secondly, agricultural production is not predictable. It is highly volatile because the changes in climate have an undeniable effect on possible output. Hence, it must be heavily subsidized by the governments if a sustainable agricultural output is desired. Subsidies mean taxes, and levying taxes are not really welcomed in the political arena.

All in all, agricultural production must be supported by all means. It is of great importance not to let down our guard, and if we do, hunger and misery follow.

Electric Cars Kill the Joy of Driving?

The introduction of electric cars kills the joy of driving. That’s an argument raised recently by a lot of car enthusiasts. True, electric cars can feel dull at times, yet the necessities that lies under its appearance outweigh the possible entertainment that people get driving around.

Electric cars seem to shake the unfallable ground that petrol cars have been standing on since the need for fast transportation was conceived as viable. Petrol cars, or cars that run on fossil fuel like gas, diesel or CNG, affect the air around us badly with its exhaust gases. These gases are carbon-rich, and deteriorate our atmosphere’s ozone layer, which, in turn, causes climate change. Climate change can be the biggest threat to our planet for it may very well ignite the fire that initiates the demise of our planet as we know it.

Car enthusiasts, on the other hand, want to stick with their traditional way of transportation as it literally sounds awesome. The internal combustion engine that is located at the heart of modern petrol cars sounds like melody to their ears. It almost feels like music. Electric cars, with their electric motors that run quietly, do not give the same sensation as long as the driving passion is concerned.

Electric car producers have a solution to this problem. They started to implement everything to satisfy customers that we call motor-heads. Electric cars of today are fast, handle like racing cars and look sporty as hell. The sound, however, can be the only feat missing.
